The EUROPAH network will host an Innovation Training event from Monday 1st October – Wednesday 3rd October, at the University of Liverpool, UK.
The venue for all training events is 6th Floor Conference Room, Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics (Building No. 235 in UoL map), University of Liverpool, Liverpool, L69 3GJ. The “EEE” department is the white building in the photo above. It is 10 mins walk to Liverpool City Centre and Liverpool main station (Lime Street station).

Preperation for the Innovation Circles Training Module
The key part of this Innovation Training Workshops is innovation circles training.
The ESRs will be asked to identify 3-4 specific problems (e.g., scientific problems related to the consortium, new collaborations, public engagement or outreach activities, etc) during the internal EUROPAH science discussion on 26th and 27th September in Edinburgh. I would suggest all the ESRs to take this opportunity to talk with each other and to fertilise new ideas or new approaches which can be brought to the innovation training event at Liverpool. During the innovation circles training, all the ESRs will be divided into 3-4 groups (you can make a few groups or team in Edinburgh) and each group/team needs to prepare a proposal to address the pre-identified problems or organise activities using critical thinking and innovative approaches.
Such a proposal might include a budget, work plan with timescale, resource required, targets/milestones, task allocation and a description on how they might integrate this into their own PhD project or potential impact. We would also encourage ESRs to engage with industry (not limited to our industrial partners) or stakeholders when developing such a proposal.
The expected outcomes from this training: i) groupings of ESRs working together on specific problems and ii) prepare a proposal on how to continue doing this work when the workshop finishes (e.g. using online forum or social media, etc).
The workshop will form part of the EUROPAH Autumn event series that includes the mid-term review meeting and the “PAHs, Nanoparticles and the Terrestrial Environment” workshop. All EUROPAH ESRs are expected to attend all three of these events.
